So busy!!!

-Kyle
No one told me this getting married thing would be so much work and take up so much of my time! ;-) A lot's been going on, allow me to catch you up.
  • February marked our one year anniversary, and the last of our monthly anniversary rituals. We're a year couple now!
  • February was also Music month for us as we get ready, we've picked a lot of music for the wedding and for the reception, we have our DJ set, and at least two of our musicians are committed now. (Still looking for a violinist... anyone know of one?)
  • We've pretty well finished Registering for our wedding gifts. We've registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Target. I'll add the links on the right side here soon. You can go online and buy gifts for us and have them shipped to us if you won't be able to make it to the wedding or you can have them shipped to you if somehow you don't have a BB&B or Target near you. If you do, stop in and buy us stuff!! :-) We've picked lots of stuff in all kinds of different price ranges, so whether you're a poor college student or a wealthy day trader... there's something for you.
  • I've started working at Walgreens as a pharmacy tech to make some extra money to help pay for my part of the wedding preparations. The past week I've been working at ND 8am to 5pm then heading straight to Walgreens and working 5-10pm, and then working weekends. I'm working a lot right now because I'm training, but once I finish next week, I'll just work weekends which will be MUCH more manageable.
  • OH!!! And big news!! My job at ND FINALLY went to Full Time Status so I have benefits again!! I can get sick! I can get glasses! I can go bungee jumping! Life is good.
  • Jeanette will find out tomorrow if there are going to be any available positions in Elkhart that she would like better. We're hoping for a good Elementary job, since that's what she's best at; but we're trusting God to give us more than just what we want, but what we need as well.

I took the day off today as a Personal Day. It's my first REAL day off since Thanksgiving break of 2004 when I went to Florida with my family. Life has taken the inevitable turn for the better that we've been waiting for for so long.

Engagement Pictures

-Kyle
Hooray! Engagement pictures are finally done, Peter took them and did a fantastic job.

You can check them out on his site by going through Wedding and then Engagement and you'll find us in there, Also I have them up on Shutterfly here Which is an easy way to order prints for VERY cheap (approx. 15 cents per print)... Not sure why anyone but us would want prints of our engagement pictures, but they're there and easily accessible. Shutterfly is a very cool site, and easily used. We'll more than likely order our pictures from there.

Christmas and New Years were a lot of fun this year, Christmas evening I drove up to Bay City and surprised Jeanette's family for Christmas. We had a great time, and then Jeanette was with our family for New Years. Jeanette taught our family Chicken Foot, which is a dominos game, and we taught her Hearts. I'm terrible at both :-).

We came home and enjoyed a quiet monday where we could rest after a long vacation, and then yesterday we both went back to work. We're at less than 6 months now and we're loving every minute of where we are.

Confirmation again and again

-Kyle

Last night I saw for certain that I've found the right woman for me.

I'm studying to get my Microsoft Certification, and to be honest it's been hard going. I keep failing the practice tests and it's getting pretty discouraging. Jeanette and I have talked about it and she offered to help me any way she can.

This past weekend we sat down for an hour or so and went over the book together and she helped me pick up some things that I had missed while studying on my own which was great and EXTREMELY helpful

But last night...
Last night after work she met me at my apartment. We watched cartoons (Invader Zim!)for a little while and ate pizza for dinner. Then we started studying. We did a 45 question test on the computer together, her reading the questions and the possible answers and then I'd try to figure out the right answer. A little background on these questions. These aren't just basic Multiple Guess questions, they're scenarios. You're in this situation, you want to do this this and this, which of these choices best accomplishes these? Jeanette was with me and enthusiastic through the whole thing. Words like SCSI, UDF file, REGEDIT, Dynamic Striped Volume... she stuck with it through the whole thing. I wanted to give up before she did.
A subject she knows little about, a language she doesn't really speak, a job that would drive her insane... she never once complained, she never said it was boring or called me a nerd, she never gave up.
We'll be back doing it again tonight after work.

THAT is love.

Tonight we're going to talk to Peter about being our photographer for the wedding. He did my best friend Dustin and his wife's wedding, and has done some other weddings that I've been at and he does a great job. Check out the link to see some pictures of his work, specifically Dustin and Amber's wedding.
The large pieces of our wedding are really coming together, We have the bride and groom, ring, date, church, pastor, reception hall, DJ, dress, tuxes, honeymoon, florist... and now we're getting a photographer. The big things are all falling into place.
It's exciting that we're getting all of these things taken care of so early. I'm more the type to do things last minute, but Jeanette is a planner so we're getting this all handled early, which works for me. Less to stress about later.

Honeymoon

Kyle-

Well as wedding plans begin to fall in place, one more piece of the Wedding Extravaganza has fallen in place. We have ourselves a honeymoon destination!!!

We're going to Los Cabos Mexico! Where, you say is Los Cabos? If you look at a map of Mexico its on the tip of the tail hanging off the back. The very tip. And thanks to the magic of Google Earth we can actually see the Resort!Flickr Photo

We'll be staying at the one there on the right, That beach goes on for miles and miles and miles and... well, you get the idea. I'm excited about this trip not only because of the obvious, but ALSO because this will complete my tour of Northern America except for Guatemala, Belize El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua... So, I guess it's not so much "complete" per se as I didn't realize there were other countries between Mexico and Panama. Luckily Jeanette teaches Music and not Geography so she won't beat me up for not knowing. (However if my 6th grade geography teacher is out there, I blame my ignorance of Central America on your pregnancy that took you out of class for 6 months and left us with a dumb sub)

This is the wedding gift from my parents, they're taking care of a large chunk of the honeymoon for us and we couldn't be more thankful.

The Story She'll Tell for Years to Come

Jeanette-

Background: It was on Valentine's Day of this year that Kyle asked me to be his girlfriend. That night it wasn't too cold, so we went to the Chocolate Cafe downtown South Bend, got hot chocolate, then went walking down by the river. There was a place we stopped where there is a dam or something so the water flows like a waterfall and the city lights are on the other side of the river--we stopped there for awhile.

SO, Earlier last week, Kyle told me he had a surprise for me once it got colder. He wasn't like, THIS IS A MAJOR SURPRISE or anything, just some little thing. I was like, okay. First, it was supposed to be Wednesday (Oct. 5), but the day arrived and it was like 85 degrees, so when he said it wasn't cold enough, I bought it. He said we'd do it over the weekend.

Thursday I had a really good day at school, which isn't normal if any of you have talked to me lately. I was on a good high when I came home. Kyle came home frome work and was like, "Let's do the surprise tonight instead of church." I was like, okay--the whole ring thing crossed my mind, but he was too calm, so I dismissed it. Plus, he was all about eating leftover spaghetti before the surprise, and that's not romantic, is it?

So after dinner it gets a little dark and he says it's time to go. We get in his jeep and we're driving...driving...into South Bend, and he pulls into the Chocolate Cafe. I was like, "Hey! I haven't been here since Valentine's Day!" and we talked about that a little bit. Again, I thought this might be it, but he was so dang CALM! Usually when he has some big surprise he is shaking and giddy and all crazy excited. I even watched his hand when he reached out to pay for our hot chocolate--no shakes.

We left and drove down to the river. Could this be it? I didn't know. Maybe he was just being sweet and romantic...We stopped at the spot by the "waterfall" and talked and...other things...and then he said, "There's something I want to talk to you about." Didn't sound very happy about it. He proceeded to say he knew I hadn't wanted him to propose without a ring, but in light of my finding my dress and all the preparations being underway, he felt he needed to. "Would that be all right?"

No ring? Oh, inside I just sort of deflated. But it made sense--earlier that week I'd met with my car insurance agent and asked about adding Kyle once we were married, and he had looked at my hand instinctively--no ring. When I had gone dress shopping the ladies all looked--no ring. And I had told Kyle this. So, I thought, he's only thinking of me. At least I can say a date when we got engaged.

"Yes, go ahead," I said.He took my hands, and started, "Jeanette, I--no. Jeanette, would you--" "Come on," I said, kind of laughing. What did he think I was going to say, "no"? He shook his head. "This just isn't right." Lo and behold, he pulls a box out of his coat, and opens it to reveal a very lovely diamond ring. "That's better. Jeanette, would you marry me?"

The rest you can imagine, but there was a lot of hugging, laughing and kissing and a lot of "Yes, yes, yes!" coming from me. :)

Hope that wasn't too long. Thanks for all your good wishes everyone!
